🙌 Festivals & Folklore 🙌
Heartfelt thanks to all 3 people who attended the Festivals & Folklore workshop on October 19! At the workshop, we learned about how cultures around the world celebrate the harvest season with their own festivals and celebrations. We wrapped up the workshop by coming up with a good superstition and positive affirmations to practice for a boost of confidence and encouragement for growth.
👻 Great Hauntway 👻
Heartfelt thanks to all 6 people who attended the Great Hauntway event on October 27! You helped run the neighborhood trick-or-treat party, and it was a great event! Hope you got some candy. 🍬

LOCAL EVENTS
💀Day of the Dead Celebration💀
Day of the DEAD?! Yes, and it’s not as spooky as it may sound! Have you seen the Disney Pixar movie, Coco? If you liked that, then you’re going to love this. The Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, started in Mexico as a celebration to remember and celebrate the lives of those who’ve passed on. There will be dancers, arts & crafts, live performances and more! Come enjoy the festival on Saturday, November 2nd in the Mission. You can get more details here.
🎵 Bhangra & Beats 🎵
Check out a downtown night market with a one-of-a-kind vibe, Bhangra and Beats. You can hear Bhangra music, get food and even dance! Not familiar with Bhangra? Well, it comes from the Punjab area of India and the music style is sometimes called a mix of traditional and electronic. The event is on Friday, November 15 from 5-10pm near the Embarcadero Center.
💌 Make Electric Thanksgiving Cards 💌
These “electric cards” are actually called paper circuit cards. They mash-up art and science and take greeting cards to a new level! Using LED lights, you can make your own card that lights up when you press a button. Make some yourself at the Chinatown Public Library on Friday, November 15 at 3:30pm. Reservations required, so call (415) 355-2888 to save your spot!
🥳Skate Party🥳
If you love to skate, this is the place to be. In Golden Gate Park, inline skaters and roller skaters get together to dance on wheels to the music by “The Godfather of Skate.” He brings a DJ unit and plays groovy tunes for everyone to groove to. It takes place every Sunday from 12-5pm. Usually, someone will be able to teach you a few roller disco dance moves, too! More info here.
✨Leonids Meteor Shower✨
Get ready for a cosmic show, because the Leonids meteor shower is just around the corner! What is Leonids meteor shower? Picture this: a dazzling display of shooting stars (actually meteors) streaking across the night sky, each one a little wish waiting to be made. In San Francisco, the best time to catch it is mid-November, when the meteors are set to put on their most brilliant performance. But, you’ll have to be up really late or really early to catch them. Get more info on how you can see them here.
RESOURCES
🕵️♀️ FBI Teen Academy 🕵️♀️
The FBI’s Teen Academy program in San Francisco offers a unique opportunity for a diverse group of high school students to explore the field of law enforcement. All students interested in leadership and service are encouraged to apply for this free program; a desire to pursue a career in law enforcement is not required. Send an email to outreach.sf@fbi.gov if you’re interested.

INSIGHTS
🙏 Giving Thanks 🙏
Happy Thanksgiving! Did you know that Thanksgiving started when the Pilgrims (America’s early European settlers) celebrated a big harvest with the Native Americans who lived here before them? This started the American tradition of giving thanks that eventually became a national holiday (thanks to Abraham Lincoln). In modern times, most people see family and eat a lot of food on Thanksgiving (like turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie)! See how Thanksgiving foods have changed through the years.
