July was a busy and exciting month at CCSC, especially for our Summer Camp youth, who explored STEM, 3D printing, nature, Tai Chi and Cantonese opera through hands-on activities and field trips across San Francisco.
We’re carrying that energy into August with a T&T Supermarket job fair, a small business workshop, our Chinatown Mural Tour & Cleanup and several community outreach events.
We’re also getting ready for our Annual Gala on September 18, when we’ll celebrate our work and the people who make it possible. Read on for details about everything we’ve been doing and what’s coming next!

Save the date for CCSC’s 43rd Annual Gala on September 18, 2026 at Far East Cafe in San Francisco. This special evening will bring together supporters, partners and community members to celebrate our work and the impact we have made together.
We will honor past board members Dr. Dennis Chew, Ms. May Ann Wong, Mr. Michael Kay and Mr. William Lee for their lasting contributions. Guests can look forward to great food, entertainment, raffle and more.

Chinatown Mural Tour Returns
Join us for a free Chinatown Mural Tour & Cleanup on Saturday, August 29, starting at Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, 836 Stockton Street. Learn about Chinatown’s murals while helping clean the surrounding streets, then enjoy free local food, nonalcoholic refreshments and live performances. Hosted by Charity Cultural Services Center, the event is funded by Avenue Greenlight and supported by Refuse Refuse. The full event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register on Eventbrite.
Small Business Workshop
Join us at Charity Cultural Services Center for a small business workshop on Tuesday, August 11, from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. at 739 Commercial Street. Presented by the Chinese Outreach Law Student Association (COLSA) and Emran Law, the workshop will cover choosing the right business structure, registering a business in San Francisco, labor law basics, payroll taxes and workers’ compensation insurance. The presentation will be in English with Chinese interpretation available. RSVP here.
T&T Supermarket Job Fair
T&T Supermarket is hiring more than 200 employees for its new San Francisco store! Join Charity Cultural Services Center and OEWD for a three-day job fair featuring positions in grocery, produce, meat, seafood, kitchen and sushi, bakery, cashiering, fulfillment and store administration. The fair will be held Thursday, August 6, from noon to 4 p.m. at OEWD, 49 South Van Ness Avenue, and Friday, August 7, and Saturday, August 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at CCSC, 739 Commercial Street. All experience levels are welcome. T&T offers paid training, flexible schedules and opportunities for career growth. Walk-ins are welcome!
Success Story
When Rex joined Charity Cultural Services Center's Bartending and Barista Training Program, he was still learning English and working toward a new career in the United States. With determination, hard work and support from CCSC staff, he built his bartending skills, strengthened his resume and prepared for job interviews.
Today, Rex is working as a bartender at Benihana! We are incredibly proud of how far he has come and excited to see him succeed in a career he worked so hard to begin.

Community Outreach
We love getting out into the community to meet new people, share our programs and strengthen relationships with residents and local organizations. Every event is a chance to make new connections, hear fresh ideas and find exciting ways to work together. In August, we’re looking forward to participating in the following events. Come say hi!

Need an Event Space?
Host your next event in our newly renovated Chinatown space. Our building now features a modern, flexible venue available for rental, with a small kitchen, bathroom, open gathering area and a separate room for office use or small-group activities. With fresh updates and a welcoming atmosphere, the space is ideal for meetings, workshops, receptions and community events of about 40 people. Catering is also available. CityBuild Construction Career Development Services (CCDS)
Employment Network Services
CityBuild Employment Network Services (ENS) is open at 801 Turk Street from 10 AM to 12 PM every Tuesday to support construction workers in career support and help finding open positions in construction.
Youth Programs
Learning Cantonese Opera
This summer, our campers explored Cantonese opera through a special program hosted by the Jing Ying Cantonese Opera Institute. They learned about its music, movement and traditional instruments and even tried using stage makeup. The hands-on experience gave campers a fun and memorable introduction to this important Chinese performing art.
Summer Camp Field Trips
July was full of learning, discovery and fun for our Summer Camp youth! Campers visited Donaldina Cameron House for a STEM and 3D printing project and toured its historic building, including the underground tunnel. They learned about kinetic and potential energy at the San Francisco Main Library, spent an active day climbing and playing at Little Oceanaut, explored plants, trees and wildlife at the San Francisco Botanical Garden and practiced Tai Chi, including Ba Duan Jin, in Chinatown. The kids have had a great summer so far!
Support PK-5 Tutoring's GoFundMe!
CCSC’s PK–5 Tutoring Program supports low-income and immigrant children in SF with bilingual tutoring. Our youth admin team, who are a team of passionate high school students looking to make an impact in youth literacy have put together this fundraiser for our tutoring program. There is a significant need for this program in San Francisco; less than one-third of third grade English learners are reading at grade level (The Frisc, March 2023). Every $500 funds a full year of support for a student like Adam, an ESL learner who gained confidence and found his voice through the program. Read more about him and donate here.

Hospitality Training Coming in the Fall
Our classes in cooking, bartending/barista and hospitality are ready for enrollment! If you or someone you know wants to sign up, we will start a new cohort of classes in the fall. Community Announcements
Self-Help's 60th Birthday Party
Celebrate Self-Help for the Elderly’s 60th birthday at a block party on Sunday, August 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Waverly Place between Clay and Sacramento streets. The celebration will feature a lion dance, special guests, performances, a Golden Spoon Cook-Off, a history photo exhibition, street food carts and family activities such as mahjong and LEGO building. The main program begins at 11:30 a.m.
History Makes the Present Complete
See Vida Kuang’s History Makes the Present Complete, the third installation of the 2026 Art on Market Street Poster Series, now on view at 15 transit shelters along Market Street between 7th and Steuart streets through fall 2026. The six illustrated posters connect pivotal moments in San Francisco history with today’s movements for racial, economic and social justice, including labor actions, housing struggles, student movements and immigration advocacy. Raised in Chinatown, Kuang uses art to honor the organizers and residents whose work has shaped the city across generations.
Native Dance and Culture for Kids
Bring the kids to Yerba Buena Gardens on Friday, August 7, for a lively performance by Eddie Madril, a dancer, singer, teacher, playwright and filmmaker dedicated to sharing Native American culture. Madril will introduce young audiences to the dances, music and traditions of Plains Indian tribes while encouraging appreciation and respect for Native heritage. The free program will be held in the Children’s Garden at 799 Howard Street, with shows from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and noon to 12:30 p.m.
