There has been a lot happening at CCSC in recent weeks. We celebrated another successful CityBuild graduation, cheered on youth participating in the Chinese History Contest and welcomed Chef Martin Yan, best known for Yan Can Cook, for a visit to our center. We are also excited and honored to share that CCSC has been selected as a 2026 beneficiary partner of Project by Project San Francisco (PbP).

As we head into summer, we are preparing for CCSC’s 43rd Annual Gala on September 18, 2026 and are still accepting sign-ups for our Summer Camp starting June 8. Thank you so much for being part of the CCSC community and for supporting the work we do together!

CCSC was honored to welcome well-known chef and television personality Martin Yan from Yan Can Cook for a special visit with our culinary students. During his visit, Chef Martin Yan spoke with students about his culinary journey, shared words of encouragement and took time to learn more about CCSC’s hospitality training programs and the work we are doing to support aspiring chefs and foodservice professionals in San Francisco. It was an exciting and inspiring experience for students to meet someone who has had such a major impact on Chinese cuisine and culinary education.

CityBuild Construction Program

CityBuild Graduation

Award ceremony collage: groups of people pose on stage with red folders, celebrating before blue curtains and wood-paneled walls.

A couple of weeks ago, CCSC was proud to celebrate another CityBuild graduation and recognize the hard work and dedication of this incredible class of graduates. Congratulations to everyone who completed the program and took an important step toward careers in the construction trades and union apprenticeship pathways! We are grateful to the instructors, employers, community partners and supporters who have helped make CityBuild such a meaningful opportunity for San Francisco residents over all of these years.

Youth Programs

CCSC’s PK–5 Tutoring Program supports low-income and immigrant children in SF with bilingual tutoring. Our youth admin team, who are a team of passionate high school students looking to make an impact in youth literacy have put together this fundraiser for our tutoring program. There is a significant need for this program in San Francisco; less than one-third of third grade English learners are reading at grade level (The Frisc, March 2023). Every $500 funds a full year of support for a student like Adam, an ESL learner who gained confidence and found his voice through the program. Read more about him and donate here.

Culinary & Hospitality Programs

Wine Class Field Trip

Students and staff at a sunny vineyard wine tasting, smiling around a table as red wine is poured under red umbrellas.

Last week, students in CCSC’s Wine Class enjoyed an educational field trip to a local winery, where they had the opportunity to learn more about the winemaking process firsthand. Students explored how grapes are grown and processed, learned about fermentation and production techniques and gained additional knowledge about different wine varieties and tasting methods. The visit was both fun and informative, giving participants a chance to connect classroom learning with real-world experience while spending time together outside of the classroom.

Hospitality Training Coming in the Fall

Four students in white coats and black hats prepare a fish with lemon slices in a kitchen, with Windy and Yan name tags.

Our classes in cooking, bartending/barista and hospitality are in progress now and going great! If you or someone you know wants to sign up, we will start a new cohort of classes in the fall. No prior industry experience is necessary. Get more information in the information flyer or email culinary@sfccsc.org.
