INSIGHTS

⏰ Daylight Savings ⏰

On the second Sunday of March, the clocks in the United States and other countries move forward for an hour for Daylight Savings time. This year, Daylight Savings’ time change falls on March 10th, 2024. The concept of daylight savings has roots in  World War I, when clocks were turned an hour forward to preserve energy for the war. Afterwards, the Uniform Time Act of 1966 established our current practice of switching between standard time and daylight savings time. The United States experimented with permanent daylight saving time in 1974, but the experiment ended within the same year due to public dislike of darker mornings. Although there are moves to make daylight savings permanent by the Senate with the Sunshine Protection Act, the bill failed to make it to the House. For now, daylight savings is here to stay.
