August was a wonderful month at CCSC, with plenty to celebrate and even more to look forward to! We’re especially excited for our Annual Gala on September 18. There are still seats and tables available, and we’d love to have you join us as we celebrate the people, programs and supporters who make this work possible.

Last month, Summer Camp wrapped up after another great season, hundreds of job seekers took part in the T&T Supermarket job fair, nearly 100 people joined our Chinatown mural tour and street cleaning event and local children picked out new backpacks filled with school supplies at our annual giveaway.

September is already shaping up to be another busy month! Some of our hospitality training classes are beginning new sessions, enrollment is open for our Fall Family in Transition program and PK–5 English tutoring classes, and we’ll be hosting a free workers’ rights and employment law presentation. Save the date for CCSC’s 43rd Annual Gala this month on September 18, 2026 at Far East Cafe in San Francisco. This special evening will bring together supporters, partners and community members to celebrate our work and the impact we have made together.

We will honor past board members Dr. Dennis Chew, Ms. May Ann Wong, Mr. Michael Kay and Mr. William Lee for their lasting contributions. Guests can look forward to great food, entertainment, raffle and more.

Chinatown Mural Tour & Cleanup

Our Chinatown mural tour and street cleaning event was a huge success, with nearly 100 people joining us for a day of community, culture and service. Participants explored local murals, learned more about the stories behind them, helped clean neighborhood streets and enjoyed local food and live entertainment. We’re grateful to Avenue Greenlight for their funding and support for the event, and to Refuse Refuse for helping with the street cleaning and spreading the word. It was wonderful to see so many people come together to celebrate Chinatown, support the neighborhood and connect with one another. Stay tuned for info on our next one in November!

Small Business Workshop

We had a successful “Starting Your Small Business in San Francisco” workshop last month, presented in partnership with COLSA (Chinese Outreach Law Student Association) and EMRAN LAW! Participants learned about choosing the right business structure, registering a business in San Francisco, labor law basics, payroll taxes and workers’ compensation requirements. The English presentation with Chinese interpreting helped make this important information accessible to our community.

Worker's Rights & Employment Law Workshop

CCSC will host another workshop about free workers’ rights and employment law presentation on September 25 from 10–11 am at 739 Commercial Street. Presented again in partnership with Emran Law and the Chinese Outreach Law Student Association (COLSA), the workshop will cover wages and overtime, meal and rest breaks, tips and service charges, hiring rules, workplace safety and how to get help when workplace issues arise. The presentation will be led by an attorney in English with Chinese interpretation available.

CCSC was proud to partner with T&T Supermarket and OEWD on a highly successful three-day job fair held August 6–8. Hundreds of job seekers came out to learn about opportunities at T&T’s new San Francisco store, with the first day held at OEWD and the following two days at CCSC in Chinatown. It was exciting to see such strong community interest and to help connect local job seekers with new employment opportunities.

We always enjoy getting out into the community, meeting new people, sharing what we do and connecting with people who may benefit from our services. Each event is also a chance to strengthen relationships with residents and local organizations, hear new ideas and find more ways to work together. Host your next event in our newly renovated Chinatown space. Our building now features a modern, flexible venue available for rental, with a small kitchen, bathroom, open gathering area and a separate room for office use or small-group activities. With fresh updates and a welcoming atmosphere, the space is ideal for meetings, workshops, receptions and community events of about 40 people. Catering is also available. CityBuild Employment Network Services (ENS) is open at 801 Turk Street from 10 AM to 12 PM every Tuesday to support construction workers in career support and help finding open positions in construction.

Youth Programs

Another Great Summer Camp!

CCSC’s Summer Camp has officially come to a close after another wonderful year! Campers spent the season learning, creating, exploring and having fun through art activities, field trips, hands-on learning and time with friends. It was a great experience for both returning campers and new participants, and CCSC is grateful to the counselors, staff, families and community partners who helped make the summer so memorable.

Annual Backpack Giveaway

CCSC’s annual backpack giveaway was a great success! Kids had the chance to choose a backpack they liked, each one filled with school supplies to help them get ready for the new school year. CCSC is grateful to our board and community partners whose generous donations helped make the giveaway possible.

Family in Transition Program

CCSC’s Family in Transition (FIT) program is now accepting students for Fall 2026! High school students will explore culture and identity through workshops, volunteer activities and a final project, with events planned throughout the semester. The program is geared toward AAPI youth but is open to everyone. The 14 most active participants will receive a $150 award. Students can sign up by September 22.

PK-5 English Tutoring Classes

CCSC is now enrolling students in PK–5 English tutoring classes for the 2026–2027 school year. Small-group online sessions are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30–7:30 pm and are led by academically strong high school tutors. Students build reading, writing, listening and speaking skills through lessons, games and other activities, with priority given to children who need additional English support. Tuition is $100 for the full school year.

Support PK-5 Tutoring's GoFundMe!

CCSC’s PK–5 Tutoring Program supports low-income and immigrant children in SF with bilingual tutoring. Our youth admin team, who are a team of passionate high school students looking to make an impact in youth literacy have put together this fundraiser for our tutoring program. There is a significant need for this program in San Francisco; less than one-third of third grade English learners are reading at grade level (The Frisc, March 2023). Every $500 funds a full year of support for a student like Adam, an ESL learner who gained confidence and found his voice through the program. Read more about him and donate here.

Our classes in cooking, bartending/barista and hospitality are ready for enrollment! If you or someone you know wants to sign up, we are starting new classes very soon. No prior industry experience is necessary. Get more information here or email culinary@sfccsc.org.

Microgrants for Youth

San Francisco youth ages 15–24 can apply for $1,000–$5,000 microgrants through the Youth Climate Action Innovation Challenge to turn ideas for a greener, healthier and more resilient community into action. Projects can include cleanups, environmental education, art, storytelling, waste reduction, urban greening and more. Applications are due September 30, 2026. World Food Forum 2026

Youth Exhibition

Young creators from middle school through university are invited to submit original videos for the 2026 World Food Forum Youth Exhibition: A Nourishing Tomorrow: Dim Sum and Beyond. The free open call asks youth to explore Cantonese heritage through stories about food, family, traditions, migration, identity and more. Selected works will be showcased at the World Food Forum at FAO Headquarters in Rome. Submissions are due September 20, 2026. Learn more and submit

2026 Family Listening Series

San Francisco children, youth, young adults and families are invited to share their experiences and help shape the city’s future through the This Is Your City: 2026 Family Listening Series. The citywide effort includes a family survey and 14 in-person Family Summits, giving residents from every neighborhood a chance to share what their families need to live and thrive in San Francisco. Out Museum

OUT Museum is pleased to present Depart to the other shore, a solo exhibition by Dixon Ngai, curated by Wong Ka Ying (KY). The exhibition is on view through October 15, 2026, with opening hours every Thursday through Saturday from 12:00–4:30 pm at OUT Museum, 949 Clay St., San Francisco.

Clarion Children’s Theater

Clarion Children’s Theater is enrolling children ages 6 and up for its fall theater program beginning September 13. Classes will be held on Sundays through December 6 at 2 Waverly Place in San Francisco Chinatown. The program includes 12 classes at just $5 per class, or $60 total.
