Thank You CCSC For This Opportunity
First, I would like to thank CCSC for giving me this great opportunity to become a unionized construction worker. They have been very helpful to me as I had been going through the whole process.
I would like to talk a little bit about how I got into this union construction trade. It all started the very first day I walked into CCSC and asked them about the construction program. Calvin explained to me about how to get into the union trade. He told me that there was an orientation coming up soon, so I went to the CityBuild orientation to learn more about the CityBuild program. After that they guided me though the pre-apprenticeship program to become a union trade craft construction worker.
The CityBuild pre-apprenticeship program is a three month program that teaches you some basic construction trade skills and provides you information all about the union trade. Information like how to get into the trade and what kind of a requirement you need to meet to get into the trade. You learn how much people should get paid and they invite union speakers to come tell you more about the trade. I think this is very important because you can always ask them questions that CityBuild cannot answer. Also, the CityBuild program gives you a little taste of construction work and some hands on training. I would say this three month pre-apprenticeship program had help me a lot and it did improve my skills out in the field when I do construction work. So, once again, I would like to give thanks to CCSC and CityBuild for helping to guide me through the process.
Thanks!

To Everyone Who Made CityBuild Possible
Hi, everybody at CCSC. I would like to thank all of you for showing me to a path to great success. The twelve weeks of training at CityBuild seemed long and uncertain but your encouragement and support got me, and many others like me, through it all. I had a job before joining CityBuild, but now I have a career I really enjoy doing. I am now working for one of the biggest companies in the HVAC industry. If it wasn’t for CityBuild and CCSC, none of this would have been possible.
I would encourage anyone who is looking for a career to join CityBuild at CCSC for career options because all of the employees are dedicated individuals who enjoy reaching out to the community.
Besides a wonderful opportunity from CityBuild and CCSC, I would like to give special thanks to Calvin because it was he, who convinced me to look at the bigger picture. He was very convincing when he told me I can make more of myself with my qualifications. Also, when I first heard about CityBuild, I wanted to join right away, but hesitated because I couldn’t take time off to take the math and English assessment tests. To accommodate my busy schedule, he offered me an opportunity to come in early to take the tests. What a nice guy.
Thank you,
Raymond Tam

Because of You - A Student’s Gratitude to Charity Cultural Service Center and City Build Academy
My name is Gustavo Choto; I was born to immigrant parents and raised in the Excelsior district of San Francisco. Last summer I had the opportunity to become a member of CCSC, and through CCSC, I became a student of City Build Academy. At that time I was in a transitional period of my life. I had many options but I wasn’t sure what direction I wanted to take my career. I considered many options including construction as a career choice, but I did not know what obstacles I would encounter in such a competitive field as construction.
When I learned about City Build, I was very eager to get enrolled. I felt it would give me an advantage in getting into construction. I didn’t know what to expect, but what I found was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my life. City Build taught me all the about the construction industry, not only working with the tools and building materials, but also the politics of working in the field and in the office. They also offered classes on how to manage money and how to deal with the stresses of working in construction and working full time. Through CCSC’s program and City Build, I acquired the tools I needed to find success within myself and within my career.
After completing the City Build program I was offered multiple jobs from many construction companies and eventually decided to take an offer from Webcor Builders to become a Project Engineer. As a Project Engineer, I have learned so much about all the aspects of construction and also learned so much about myself. I have become an integral part of my company and will continue to excel in my career. I owe a large part of my opportunities and success to CCSC and City Build Academy. I feel that my time at City Build prepared me physically and mentally to contend with the rigors of working in construction. I feel blessed and grateful to have been a part of CCSC and City Build; it has changed my life and my family’s future forever. Thank you CCSC and City Build.
