A Good Carpenter Class for Asian Americans

Many Asians are working in the construction industry today.  Charity Cultural Services Center collaborated with City College to provide a golden opportunity for people, like me, who want join the Carpentry Union and do construction work.  This is made possible through the Asian Carpentry Union Hardskills’ Training program.  I was in Cycle 6 of ACUHT program.  During the training, I did not just learn the theory, but also I had a lot of practical hands-on experience in construction.  This helped establish a great foundation for my construction skills.

After becoming a Local 22 union member, I got a job from Webcor Builders with the help from another classmate of ACUHT.  In the beginning, I faced a lot of challenges, especially with the language and communicating.  Fortunately, with the help of co-workers and supervisors, I improved both my English and related construction skills little by little.  Looking back, I realized that it has been almost two years since I began working at Webcor.  During these two years, I have learned a lot of different skills such as putting in a foundation for a house, structural work, concrete, interior construction, and swimming pool models.  The main reason I stay with this company is that I have the opportunity to work on different projects.  With this job, I can provide a decent living for my family and transform my life for the better.  I am thankful to Charity Cultural Services Center for giving me an opportunity to take the ACUHT program.  I will do my best to create a better future.
