BEFORE THE NEXT EARTHQUAKE:

Evaluate your home
-Water heater is embraced,anchored,or strapped to prevent tipping.
-House is attached to its foundation with bolts through the sill.
-Perimeter foundation cripple walls are properly braced.
-Household chemicals are stored so that containers will not easily tip over and spill.

Stock Emergency Supplies
-A good fire extinguisher.
-Portable radio & extra batteries.
-Flashlights & extra batteries.
-First-aid & handbook.
-Enough water for each family member for at least 3 days.
-Nonperishable food.
-Required medications.
-Glasses
-Blankets,warm clothes, & comfortable shoes.

DURING THE EARTHQUAKE:

Indoors
-Duck or drop down to the floor.Take cover under a sturdy desk or table.
-Stay clear of windows,fireplaces,& heavy furniture.
-DO NOT rush outside.
-DO NOT try using the stairs or elevators while the building is still shaking.

Outdoors
-Stay out of all buildings & power lines.
-If driving, STOP if it is safe. Stay inside the car.DO NOT stop on or under a bridge, overpass,tunnel,trees,light post,electrical power lines or signs.

Mountainous Area
-Be aware of falling rock & other debris.

Crowded Public Area
-Stay calm
-DO NOT rush for the exits.
